Amino acids are the "building blocks" of the body. They are pure protein in raw form. Besides building cells and repairing tissue, amino acids form antibodies to combat invading bacteria & viruses, are part of the enzyme & hormonal system, build nucleoproteins (RNA & DNA), carry oxygen throughout the body and participate in muscle activity and muscular growth. When protein is broken down by digestion the result is typically 22 known amino acids leaking into the system. Eight of these acids are essential (meaning they cannot be manufactured by the body and must be taken orally), and the rest are non-essential (meaning they can be made by the body with proper nutrition but still have additional benefit when they are not required to be made).
